[Physical and Chemical Properties]: Under normal temperature and pressure, it is a pale-yellow liquid. It is a salt of a strong base and a weak acid, with an alkaline aqueous solution. It reacts with acids to release chlorine gas and decomposes easily upon exposure to light. It is relatively stable in a cool and alkaline environment but decomposes faster at temperatures above 70°C.
